Formby Golf Club, is a fantastic links course that has seen a host of the world’s best course architects make their adaptions, originally designed by Willie Park opening in 1884, in the early 1920’s James Braid and Harry Colt made it from an 9 hole to 18 remodelling the course, in 1930 Hawtree and Taylor added their changes, and more recently Donald Steel, lengthened the course to over 7,000 yards. It is bordered by pine trees giving this links the feel of a heathland, undulating fairways can see you easily run off into the rough and heather. The scenery around Formby is truly breath-taking, giving some of the most memorable views. The quality of the course has been rewarded with the hosting of The British Amateur Championship four times, most recently being won by Matteo Manassero in 2009.
